HOLD THAT SNACK!

It was time for Take 2!! Our children just LOVE inventing, being creative, and designing!! Today's challenge was:
Using the materials and tools provided, design and create a containing structure to safely
hold the snack provided by your teacher.

The children were given criteria for their snack container:
  • Your container must be the correct size to hold the snack provided.
  •  Your container must safely hold the snack provided so that is does not fall out or get lost.
  • Your container must have a way to stay closed.
  • Your container must have a way to open so you can put the snack in or take it out.
  • Your container must have a handle so that you can carry it.
First they sketched two different ideas for the container. Next they chose which one they would design.
Next, came the designing phase! They were given several materials to use to design and build. They were given 25 minutes to work!

Once the 25minutes were up, the children were given their snack...popcorn....to test out their designs! They had to test each item of  criteria to be sure they designed their container correctly. Of course not everyone finished, some did not meet all the criteria, some were close, and some did. But we focused on that idea that inventors spend 25 years sometimes, not 25 minutes, creating something new. It was an opportunity to think outside of the box and get some creative juices flowing. Enjoy the pictures!
