Observing in Swickard Woods

Yesterday we were honored to be led on a field experience with Mrs. Sandy Willmore, our Science/Nature Specialist! The kiddos took binoculars, clipboards, pencils, and a note taking sheet as we observed living and nonliving things in the woods. They determined if what we found was living based on the following criteria:
  • Does it need air?
  • Does it need food?
  • Does it move?
  • Does it grow?
We were fortunate to see frogs, daddy long legs (which we learned are NOT spiders), a groundhog hole, birds, walnut trees, and the class favorite fox scat!!! Ms. Sandy taught us that scat is the word scientists use for poop!! The kids were fascinated:)

Our discussion today will lead into what did we see, what did we not see that we know lives in Swickard Woods, and how do we know that? This will direct us into our big project!!
